THIS WEEK
JAM (Jesus and Me)
There will be no JAM on Sunday 26th May.
On Your Own Lunch
Our next lunch is in one week’s time, on Sunday 26th May at 1pm in St Andrew’s Room. If you’re normally on your own, do join us then. Bring your own lunch, but also prepare to sample various tasty “extras” which invariably appear on the table! We also enjoy wine, juice, hot drinks, friendship and lively chat during which we often (unsuccessfully) try to put the world to rights! Our lunches take place on the last Sunday of every other month. Future dates for your diaries are 28th July and 29th September. If you have any queries, please ring Hilary Mills on 01483 772952
Cleaning
There is a cleaning vacancy here at St. Mary's. It would suit a person flexible to clean the church either on a Friday or Saturday morning. You wouldn't be cleaning on your own you will be with one other.
Reading Rota
The reading rota covering the period June 9th to December 29th is now available for collection at the back of church.
Church Heating
The plan is to get the Church heating radically overhauled this summer. We are required to draw everyone’s attention to the fact we’ve applied for the necessary final approvals –called a Faculty. There is now 4 weeks for anyone to object. The details are on the noticeboard at the back of Church, and I would be happy to try to answer any questions. Richard Carter
Guildford Diocescan Summer School
Each year in July, the Diocese organise an interesting Summer School programme. This runs from 22nd-26th July on the theme of 'Faith-full Living'. There are booklets at the back of church with the programme of seminars. There is something for everyone. The booking form is in the booklet.
Pastoral Care Committee (see poster on notice boards)
Has someone you know been absent from Church recently? Do you know anyone who would like a phone call or a visit - if so please tell one of us. Gill Walsh, Barbara Brown, Angela Murphy, Sue Dunsford, Hilary Mills or Beryl Wood
Prayer for yourself and others
Are you concerned about someone dear to you, or about your own health? Would you like a prayer for healing?
Come to our prayer room at the back of church any time during or after Communion, where members of our prayer team will pray with you. It is all completely confidential.
St. Mary’s Big Family Lunch
St. Mary’s Church would like to invite you to their Big Family Lunch on Sunday 2nd June 2013 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation.
From 12 noon until 3pm we are offering a ploughman’s lunch for £1 a plate, hot and cold drinks and homemade cakes. There will be a raffle (helpers needed to sell tickets) and activities for the children.
The church tower will be open (helpers needed to steward) to see great views over Horsell and beyond. Afternoon tea will be served from 3 until 4.30 to coincide with the village quiz.
Join us for our All Age Worship at 11am or come along for lunch at 12 noon. Bring your friends and neighbours, there’s no need to book and as always a warm welcome awaits.
Horsell Garden Safari
Need some more helpers the weekend before the event to sell schedules. Please could you offer your help for one hour selling schedules and raffle tickets sometime during Saturday 8th June: 9:30 - 3:30 or Sunday 9th June: 10:00 - 3:00 either at Squires Garden Centre or in Horsell High Street.

Can you help?
We would like to make a display of photos, articles, memories of the Coronation 60 years ago for the Big Lunch. Do you have anything you can offer towards the display? If you can help, please put in an envelope labelled with your name, address and phone number and pass to Mike Couper, Gill Walsh or Libby Davis.
We will look after your things and return to you after 2nd June.
The Ministry of Spiritual Direction
If you would like to deepen your relationship with God, or explore your faith, or simply have a companion on your spiritual journey, you might like to consider Spiritual Direction. The Revd. Gill Welford, Rector of Chiddingfold, has produced a leaflet explaining what this ministry is about and how it might be of use to you. The leaflets are on the notice board at the back of church.
What happens during the vacancy?
While we are without a Vicar, we very much hope with everyone’s help and support to carry on with more or less the normal pattern of services. Today we welcome Rev Richard Hay to preside at both the 8am and 10am Communions this week.
As well as regular services, the rest of our church life also continues. So for example enquiries about baptism, marriages or funerals should continue as before to be made to Helen in the church office. She will consult the Rural Dean, Cathy Blair, who is based at St Paul’s Woking, as necessary. We’ve also not forgotten more mundane but important things like overhauling the heating – and hope to be able to say more about this in the next week or so.
Please do feel free to talk to us if you have any concerns or ideas.

Discerning a new Vicar – an update
There were 17 responses to the advertisement in the Church Times. Earlier this week Bishop Christopher, Archdeacon Julian Henderson, our Rural Dean Cathy Blair, and we discussed all the applications. Together we shortlisted 5 - three women and two men.
The actual interviews will take place in early June, and we hope this will lead to an appointment. The person appointed will almost certainly need to give three months notice to their current parish, which means the earliest a new Vicar could actually arrive would be September. (This is actually quite good timing as it fits with the start of school year.)

Prayers
During communion, or at the end of the All Age service, there will be someone available to pray with/for you in complete confidence, in the prayer room at the rear of the main body of the church.
Just to remind you that we have a prayer request box available for all, which is opened weekly. Found at the back of the church.
