The
editors of the new edition of Mission Praise state in the
preface that 'music has always ben vital to the expression of Christian
praise and worship and a dynamic church will constantly find new
ways of expressing Christian truth in hymns and songs.'
It is felt that music at St Mary's, Horsell is first and foremost
an aid to worship and a ministry to all who choose to worship within
its walls. We seek to utilise the best from the various styles of
church music now in use.
A small but balanced S.A.T.B. choir will normally lead worship at
the Parish Communion whilst at Choral Evensong sung two or three
times a quarter, special services, and at Christmas, more members
of the church family are involved. Hymns, psalms and songs are carefully
chosen to reflect the scripture readings for each service. Responsive
music including Taizé chant is used from time to time to
enhance the intercessions and offer a different way of singing psalms.
Church family worship (slightly less formal) is normally led by
a small but very effective music group of singers and instrumentalists.
On special occasions such as Harvest, Mothering Sunday and Easter,
choir, organ and music group combine.
